How to Get Tix Fast in Retro Tower Defense

The short version

Every Tix multiplier in the game is on this list, in order of value:

SourceMultiplierCost
Triple Trouble modifier+30% Tix and XPFree (level 10)
No Heroes modifier+25%Free (level 10)
Unsupportive modifier+20%Free (level 10)
Extremely Hyper modifier+15%Free (level 10)
Double Trouble modifier+15%Free (level 10)
Bullet Proof modifier+15%Free (level 10)
Doombringer Hell modifier+15%Free (level 10)
Hyper / Shortsighted modifiers+10% eachFree (level 10)
Big Tix Boost+35% for 1 hour109 Robux
Small Tix Boost+15% for 1 hour59 Robux
CodesFlat Tix, plus boost timeFree

The point that page makes on its own: the free multipliers are bigger than the paid ones, and they stack. A 109-Robux Big Tix Boost gives +35% for an hour. Triple Trouble plus No Heroes plus Unsupportive gives +75%, permanently, for nothing.

Why “just play Hard” is the wrong instinct

New players assume higher difficulty means better Tix per hour. It does, but not as much as modifiers do, and difficulty has a failure mode modifiers do not: you lose the run.

The right frame is the highest-paying loadout you can still reliably clear. Take a one or two-star map from the map list — Arch Park, Crossroads, Happy Home — and pile enemy modifiers onto it. Double Trouble doubles the enemy count for +15%; Triple Trouble triples it for +30%. On a map with generous cliff spots and a long path, tripling a wave of Noobs is not meaningfully harder, and you are earning 30% more for it.

Compare that to Insane, which only 51,000 players out of 10.3 million have ever cleared once.

The modifiers to avoid while farming

Three modifiers reduce your payout, and one of them is a trap:

  • Tag Team lets you place a second heroic and costs -65% Tix and XP. It is the single worst farming modifier in the game. Use it to clear something hard, never to grind.
  • Telescopic (+30% tower range) costs -15%.
  • Everything else on the modifier list either pays you or is neutral.

AFK farming, honestly

There is no legitimate AFK farm in Retro Tower Defense. Runs require placement and upgrade decisions, and the game does not idle. Search results for macros and scripts point at exploit tooling, which is a ban risk and not something this site will link to or explain.

What does work while you are not playing: nothing. Both Tix boosts explicitly do not tick while you are offline, so buying one before you log off wastes it.

Where the rest of your Tix come from

Daily rewards run on a 30-day cycle and reset to day 1 if you miss a day. The cycle mixes Tix (250 up to 1,000+), luck boosts and trait tokens, and the later slots are the good ones — which makes the streak worth more than any single day’s reward.

Codes are lumpy but real. Several expired codes were worth 500 to 750 Tix plus an hour of boost each. When an update drops, check the codes page before you start playing, not after.

Forsaken Tokens are a separate currency and only drop from the four Forsaken maps during the collab — see the Forsaken collab guide.

What to spend it on

Not level 5 upgrades, early on. Tower cost scales hard: most towers spend more than half their total on the last two levels. Two towers at level 3 usually beat one at level 5, and the Tix-per-DPS table shows which towers give you the most damage for the Tix in the first place.
